In 2021 Registro Italiano Navale celebrated its 160th anniversary and on this occasion, on the proposal of Promotori Musei del Mare, wanted to give its Register Books in digital format to Galata Maritime Museum.

“More than just a maritime museum”
The Galata Museo del Mare spreads on over 10,000 square metres in a modern steel and glass building designed by Guillermo Vasquèz Consuegra. It is the biggest and most innovative maritime museum in the Mediterannean.
The exhibition describes the evolution of the port and the city with a scientific approach and a wide use of multimedia and interactivity.

“The immersive adventure”
The Submarine S518 Nazario Saurio represent’s the museum’s open air section. It is the fisr ever italian military vessel to become a floating exhibition. It is moored in the Darsena, exactly opposite the museum entrance.

L’Ospitale della Commenda di San Giovanni di Prè dates back to 1180, during the Crusades (between 1095 and 1291) it was used to welcome and assist knights, soldiers, merchants, peregrines who found hospitality in its premises. Today it hosts the Museoteatro Commenda S. Giovanni di Prè
