RIMORCHIATORE FRANCIA

A feature of the modern tugs like the FRANCIA are cycloidal propellers with rotating blades that guarantee an exceptional manoeuvrability in small areas.

The main features of modern tugs like the Francia are a central pilot house, azimuthal multi-directional engines that guarantee high manoeuvrability and a winch in lieu of the old tow hook.

The exceptional sizes of most of modern ships, the small basins and the need to operate in different weather conditions impose the use of more and more sophisticated tugs. They are also used for fire fighting purposes and to assist vessels in distress.

RIMORCHIATORE SVEZIA

The tug SVEZIA worked in the port of Genoa during the 60’s and became a celebrity on September 16, 1962 when it towed the famous liner Michelangelo after her launch.

The first steam engines on a ship were used to tow river barges on the Clyde canal, in England, during the 18th century. They were mostly used in ports where the first tugs were employed to move big sailing ships and to assist during the docking operations.
The tug “Svezia” was used in the 60’s in the port of Genoa, it went mostly unnoticed but became quite famous on September 16, 1962, when it towed to a basin the freshly-launched liner Michelangelo.
