OTTAVIO NOVELLA

After the last conflict, Ottavio Novella transformed his coal trading business into a new one: as petroleum products were beginning to substitute for coal in marine fuels, he began to focus on the transportation of these new goods, thus starting his independent shipowner activity. While this was initially limited to lighter barges used for bunker transportation within the harbor, it later developed by including larger tankers, up to the current 40,000 vessels.
Nowadays, the business structure consists of three companies. Firstly, a company (CALISA Spa) specialized in the leasing and fitting out of oil tankers, which are employed in international traffic (4 medium-range, double hulls vessels covering from the Mediterranean to the Far East). Secondly, a leading company (CIANE Spa) involved in infra-port bunkering services (5 lighter barges from 1,400 to 2,700 tdw serving all Ligurian ports), and finally, a company dedicated to shipmanagement services on behalf of the ‘sister companies’. This last one provides administrative, operational and technical assistance (from design and construction to management), manning services for the proper organization and training of personnel, and safety and security assistance.

As of today, the group employs almost 200 people among both administrative and maritime staff (mostly Italian). They are all committed to pursuing the business’ goals: maximum attention to both people and the environment, the delivery of efficient services and full compliance with standards, reliability, and professionality in any activity.
